The O’ Neil’s High School Barbering Program is about much more than cutting hair
It’s about unlocking the artistry, entrepreneurship, and confidence behind the barber’s chair. Designed to ignite the passion of aspiring young professionals, this program serves as a gateway to an exciting, lifelong career.
Led by licensed barber and certified instructor O’Neil Curtis, students dive into the craft. Through live demonstrations and hands-on practice, they learn the art and science of hair while honing their skills with real-world techniques and professional tools.
Tailored for youth interested in the hair and beauty industry, O’Neil’s comprehensive curriculum provides a strong foundation for future success. Through the program, students explore career pathways and gain skills toward state licensure.

With the opening of Youth City Lab O’Neil’s Barbering Program will expand into dedicated space for O’Neil’s Barber College, unlocking expanded training opportunities for young people throughout our community. This will provide more formal barber training, state licensure prep, professional certifications, valuable apprenticeship opportunities, and dedicated mentorship from industry pros.
Middle and high schools can opt to bring their students to O’Neil’s Barber Program at Youth City Lab for a program tailored specifically to your school's or students' needs. Designed for those interested in hair, High School Barbering provides an overview of the barber industry, as well as career pathways and licensure, financial literacy, marketing, and business planning. These skills are essential for all young people regardless of career choice.
Ron Brady Scholarship
The Ron Brady Scholarship was established in 2023 to honor the life and legacy of Ron Brady—a pillar of the community, a barber at O’Neil’s Barbershop, and a vital leader within the Line4Line Haircut for Reading Program.
Ron’s commitment to youth was evident through his 20 years of service at BREC, his volunteer work as a football coach, and his pivotal role in launching the Line4Line Youth Basketball Program.
